It was the first time that an entire operations center had been relocated, as SBB announced on Sunday. The Renens Operations Center looks after over 800 kilometers of railroad line around the clock, on which around 2500 trains run every day. The operations managers ensure the safety of rail traffic, the punctuality of trains and take measures in the event of disruptions.
The new operations center is located in one of three buildings at SBB's regional headquarters. The handover from the old to the new center reportedly went without a hitch. Numerous tests had been carried out over several months to ensure that the move went smoothly.
The third SBB building in the Parc du Simplon district in Renens houses around 400 employees from the operations center, technical services, coordination and customer information, which were previously located in Lausanne, as well as training rooms. This means that more than 1,400 SBB employees working in all divisions for French-speaking Switzerland are now united at the headquarters in Renens.
The Parc du Simplon district is a new part of the city, adjacent to the Renens high school and home to around 270 apartments, administrative areas, stores, craft businesses and SBB's headquarters for French-speaking Switzerland. SBB has invested around CHF 270 million in the district, including CHF 85 million for the new building and operations center.
