Due to renovation work in the Hauenstein tunnel, there will be restrictions on train services between Basel and Olten during the summer vacation period. From July 7 to August 12, the direct connections from Basel to Zurich, among others, will only run every half hour during peak times, as announced by SBB on Monday.

In addition, every second S3 train from Basel will turn around in Gelterkinden BL and will not run as far as Olten. Rail replacement buses will be used to replace the S9 trains from Sissach via Läufelfingen to Olten.

Because the trains will only run at a limited speed and will be partially rerouted, the departure and arrival times will change, it was reported.

SBB is completely renovating the Hauenstein Base Tunnel by 2028. Among other things, the two tunnel tracks will be replaced as part of the project. According to the press release, this work will take place in four stages: 2024, 2026, 2027 and 2028, each during the summer vacation period.
