Suicide prevention City of Bern installs safety fences on Lorraine Bridge

The City of Bern has installed temporary safety fences on the Lorraine Bridge. The nets are intended to prevent suicides.

The city of Bern began installing the fences on both sides of the bridge at the beginning of the week. This is a provisional measure due to an increase in suicides, as the city wrote in a press release on Tuesday.

In the medium term, the Lorraine Bridge is to be secured with horizontal safety nets, it added. A corresponding project is in preparation.

In the city of Bern, the Kirchenfeld and Kornhaus bridges are already equipped with horizontal safety nets. They were installed in 2015 after temporary safety fences had been in place since 2009.
