Universities ETH Zurich starts the new semester with 27,000 students

ETH Zurich has recorded a record number of new students: around 3700 Bachelor's students have registered for a course of study. This is around 13 percent more than in the previous year.

There has also been a significant year-on-year increase in new admissions to Master's degree programs, as ETH Zurich announced on Thursday. The figures are provisional and may still change slightly, as not all those enrolled actually begin their studies.

In order to maintain quality despite constantly rising student numbers, ETH is demanding more money. In the last 20 years, the number of students at ETH Zurich has doubled and now stands at around 27,000. However, there has been a wide gap between the growth in student numbers and ETH's budget for years.
