Football Euro Cups are guests in Basel for the Uefa anniversary

The two Euro Cups for men's and women's football were exhibited on the market square in Basel on Thursday. The reason for this is the 70th anniversary of the European Football Association Uefa. It was founded in Basel in 1954.

Football fans and onlookers were able to take a close look at and photograph the two European Championship trophies, which were displayed in glass cases. President of the cantonal government Conradin Cramer (LDP) opened the ceremony and also made reference to the Uefa Women's Euro 2025. Basel is one of eight venues. The Joggeli will host the opening and final match of the European Women's Football Championship in July 2025.

In his speech, Cramer recalled that Uefa was founded on June 15, 1954 at the initiative of the French, Belgian and Italian associations in the Salon Rouge of the Hotel Euler in Basel. It had its headquarters in Paris until 1960 and then in Bern. In 1995, Uefa finally moved to Nyon.

Guests at the ceremony included Uefa representative Martin Kallen, Marion Daube, Director of Women's Football SFV and Doris Keller, Tournament Director of the Women's European Championship 2025. The celebrations included a birthday cake and a wheel of fortune in front of the town hall.
