Eastern Switzerland Fire at waste incineration plant in Bazenheid SG

A fire broke out at the waste incineration plant in Bazenheid late on Sunday evening. The damage to property amounts to around 100,000 Swiss francs.

The fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m. in a bunker filled with several hundred tons of wood chips. The emergency services were able to empty the bunker and extinguish the burning wood chips, according to the St. Gallen cantonal police on Monday.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated by the cantonal police's forensics competence center.
