Labor market Higher unemployment rate in the canton of Basel-Stadt

The unemployment rate in the canton of Basel-Stadt rose by 0.2 percentage points to 3.8% in July. This was still well above the national average of 2.3 percent, while the rate in the canton of Baselland was slightly lower at an unchanged 2.2 percent.

The number of registered unemployed in the city canton increased by 189 to 3,792 people. In the canton of Basel-Landschaft, 3231 people were registered as unemployed in July, 52 more than in the previous month. This is according to statistics published by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) on Tuesday.

The number of jobseekers in Basel-Stadt increased by 388 to 5895, while in Baselland it rose by 102 to 5506.

At the end of July, 1155 vacancies were registered in the canton of Basel-Stadt. This was 279 fewer than in the previous month. In the canton of Basel-Landschaft, the number of vacancies fell by 195 to 1245.
