The outdoor pool season in the city of Berne has got off to a rough start. The number of visitors is at an all-time low, as the Directorate for Education, Social Affairs and Sport announced on Wednesday.

Rainy days and cool temperatures have been the norm since mid-May, while summer days have so far been the exception. Compared to the previous year, admissions fell by 56 percent.

The Weyermannshaus, Marzili, Lorraine and Ka-We-De outdoor pools recorded just 321,000 admissions up to last Sunday. In the same period last year, the figure was 736,000.

Comparably low figures were last recorded in 2021, when the interim balance sheet showed around 425,000 bathers. At that time, the Aare flood and the renovation of the "Weyerli" had a negative impact.
