According to a British court, an Australian entrepreneur is not the founder of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, operating under the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto". This was stated by a High Court judge in London on Thursday, as reported by the PA news agency. The entrepreneur Craig Wright had claimed that he was "Satoshi". He was sued for this by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (Copa).
The foundation stone for Bitcoin was laid in 2008. An individual or group published a paper under the name "Satoshi Nakamoto" that described the principles for autonomous digital money. "Satoshi" only ever communicated with his early comrades-in-arms electronically before he withdrew after a few years.
Who is "Satoshi Nakamoto"?
There has always been speculation about the identity of the person or persons. In 2016, Wright declared that he was "Satoshi Nakamoto" and wanted to back up this claim with the inventor's crypto key, for example. However, experts soon raised doubts. The judge in the UK has now ruled that the pseudonym is not Wright. A written judgment is to be published at a later date.
Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that does not require a central bank or administrator. Transactions are processed via a publicly accessible, non-manipulable database ("blockchain").
