The Edmonton Oilers extend Leon Draisaitl's contract by eight years. With an average annual salary of 14 million dollars, the German has become the highest-paid NHL player.
The 28-year-old from Cologne thus replaces Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who was previously number 1 on this list with 13.25 million dollars.
Draisaitl was voted the most valuable player in the world's best ice hockey league after the 2019/20 season. Last season, he advanced to the Stanley Cup Final with Edmonton for the first time, but the Oilers were defeated by the Florida Panthers in Game 7.
