Peter Miethe, equipment keeper at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, has died in an accident at the second division club's training camp. The club of Swiss player Jan Elvedi is interrupting its pre-season preparations.
According to the club, the accident occurred on Wednesday evening at the training camp in Mals in South Tyrol. "The FCK is in shock. Our hearts are broken," the club announced on social media. The 62-year-old Miethe worked for the Palatinate club for more than 20 years and was responsible for many matters relating to the team. The team, led by new coach Markus Anfang, should return home to Kaiserslautern later today.
The test match against FC St. Gallen scheduled for next Sunday will therefore also not take place.
