Greek football is not at peace. There are even clashes between hooligans before a pre-season match. Shots are fired.
Rival fan groups of the traditional Greek club Panathinaikos Athens fought a mass brawl in front of the club's football stadium in the center of Athens. According to reports by Greek radio (ERT), at least three people were injured. One of them was shot. As dpa learned from police sources, more than 70 fans were taken into custody. It was initially unclear what caused the brawl. It is said that only Panathinaikos supporters were involved.
On Saturday evening, Panathinaikos hosted Cypriot side AEK Larnaca for a pre-season match at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, and the referee blew the whistle despite the previous riots. Due to temperatures of almost 40 degrees in Greece's capital, only around 500 fans attended the match.
Greek football has been rocked by riots for years. Last year, three fans were killed in serious riots.
I wonder what is going through Shaqiri's mind?
According to reports, Panathinaikos Athens are interested in national team crack Xherdan Shaqiri. It's possible that images like this will put him off playing in Greece.
