Spanish midfielder Rodri is named best player of the European Championship by UEFA. His team-mate Lamine Yamal is voted best young player. The European Championship top scorer crown goes to six players.
The 28-year-old team-mate of Manuel Akanji at Manchester City was the brains behind the Spaniards' game. He had to be substituted at the break in the final.
Rodri's team-mate Lamine Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday the day before the final, was honored as the best youngster. The FC Barcelona winger scored the 1:1 in the semi-final against France with a magnificent shot and set up Nico Williams' 1:0 in the final. Williams was voted the best player of the final by the twelve-strong panel of experts.
Rodri follows in the footsteps of Matthias Sammer, Zinédine Zidane, Theodoros Zagorakis, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Antoine Griezmann and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who previously won the MVP trophy, which was introduced in 1996.
Six top scorers in Germany
Six players share the top scorer crown at the European Championship. As neither Spain's Dani Olmo nor England's Harry Kane scored in the final, they share the honor with the other three top scorers of the tournament in Germany: Cody Gakpo, Georges Mikautadze, Jamal Musiala and Ivan Schranz.
Back in 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, six top scorers, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Balotelli, scored three goals each.
