The collaboration between Basel and SRG for the staging of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will begin next week. The SRG budget required for this has not yet been determined, as one of the main people responsible said in an interview.

Those responsible for the major event from the city, the canton and SRG will work together, said Moritz Stadler, SRG co-responsible for the organization of the music event, in an interview with "Le Temps" published on Monday. The employees responsible for security at the major event will also be joining forces.

The SRG budget is still unclear, as the teams were still busy analyzing the two bids, Stadler said. It is not yet clear how many people will make up the organization team. "We are in the process of assessing the requirements," he said. So far, 16 SRG employees have been deployed for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

Expertise from Sweden

SRG is receiving support from two Swedes, including Christer Björkman. The television producer has already been involved in six editions of the music competition. The size of the event is too big for a single broadcaster: "We need the knowledge, the networks and the connections to the national delegations," said Stadler.

The co-director emphasized that there is little time left for the organization: "From 13 May 2025, we have to produce three shows on an unprecedented scale." Time management is therefore one of the biggest challenges in organizing the music competition.

Basel recently beat Geneva to host the ESC. The semi-finals and final will take place from May 13 to 17, 2025.
