On Saturday evening, the biggest pop party of the year took place in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle. Presenter Florian Silbereisen (42) had organized a party under the motto "Alles sparkelt! Alles glitzert!" for his show "Schlagerbooom 2023" on Ersten.

And of course the absolute greats of the genre responded to his call. Among others, Andrea Berg (57 ) presented her new album, which was also released on October 20. Howard Carpendale (77) also presented his new work "Let's do it again" there.

But one performance outshone all the others that evening: Singer Michelle (51) announced shortly beforehand that she would be saying goodbye to her fans for good next year with a final album and ending her career.

In the Silbereisen show, she performed her farewell song "Das war's für mich" and explained her decision in conversation with the presenter, who couldn't hide his emotion: "Everyone here is a bit speechless. What an emotional song. You can't really believe it when you suddenly sing it."

There have been highs and lows in her life, Michelle explained afterwards. She is now at a point where she wants to close this door so that she can open a new one.

Another highlight of the evening was an emotional medley by Thomas Anders (60) together with Florian Silbereisen. The two paid musical tribute to Roger Whittaker (1936-2023), who died on September 13, with his greatest hits.

"His music made him immortal. Dear Roger, we will never forget you," said Silbereisen at what was possibly the emotional climax of the evening.

Silbereisen and Anders sang hits such as "Ein bisschen Aroma", "Albany" and "Eloise". After the performance, Silbereisen sent a greeting to his deceased colleague: "I hope you were up there listening and singing along with us!"
