Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan is coming to the 77th Locarno Film Festival. The Indian superstar will be awarded the Pardo alla Carriera. On August 10, he will receive this award for his life's work on the Piazza Grande.

"Baadshah", or the emperor of Bollywood, is what Shah Rukh Khan is known as in India. He will be coming to Locano next August. Giona A. Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, is correspondingly enthusiastic. "Welcoming Shah Rukh Khan to Locarno is a dream come true!" he was quoted as saying in a press release issued by the festival on Tuesday.

For more than thirty years, actor Shah Rukh Khan has starred in over one hundred films, including musicals, crime films and historical dramas. He began his career in television before switching to cinema. In 2002, he founded his own production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, which has become one of the most important in the Hindi film industry.

Shah Rukh Khan's awards include 14 Filmfare Awards, the Padma Shri from the Indian government as well as the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Légion d'honneur from the French government.

Shah Rukh Khan achieved world fame with films such as the romantic thriller "Baazigar: Betrayed Love" (1993), the romantic drama "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995) and the love story "Kuch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - And all of a sudden it's love" (1998). His most recent films include "Pathaan", "Jawan" and "Dunki", which were released in cinemas in 2023 and were huge commercial successes.

At the 77th Locarno Film Festival, which takes place from 7 to 17 August, the film "Devdas by Sanjay Leela Bhansali" (2002) will be shown as part of the tribute program. The star actor will also make a public appearance on August 11.
