Kylian Mbappé (25) has arrived at Real Madrid. 85,000 spectators line the stands at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for his presentation.
Mbappé was welcomed by Real Madrid in the same way Cristiano Ronaldo was 15 years ago. The stadium was sold out (with free tickets).
In the morning, Mbappé underwent medical tests, after which he signed the five-year contract that had been waiting for him for months. This was followed by press conferences and what the fans were waiting for: the official presentation.
Of course, a presentation like this has to be cheesy. Mbappé stood next to club president Florentino Pérez and all 15 Champions League (and Champions Cup) trophies that Real Madrid have already won. Many icons from the club's history stood guard for the new superstar, including Zinedine Zidane. "Twelve years ago, 'Zizou' (Zidane) invited a promising youngster to visit our training ground. Now this boy is the star who will help us to be successful in the future. Welcome, Kylian Mbappé!"
Pérez went on to say that he knew what this moment meant to Kylian (Mbappé) because "we saw your eyes light up when you were here for the first time at 13". Mbappé's eyes shone again this time: "I will give my life for this club," said Mbappé. In perfect Spanish, he continued: "It's incredible to be here now. I've dreamed of playing for Real Madrid for years. Now my dream has become a reality. I'm proud to be a player for the best football club in the world."
In Madrid, Mbappé will be responsible for the offense together with the Brazilian Vinicius and the Englishman Jude Bellingham. Mbappé will play his first competitive match with Real Madrid on August 17/18 away at Real Mallorca. Real Madrid did not provide any financial details on the signing of Mbappé. However, the Frenchman is likely to earn €15 million per season and has received a signing bonus of €100 million. Mbappé moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
