Geoff Hurst would rather watch the European Championship final at home than in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. At the same time, he pleads for a new national holiday if England wins the title.
Hurst declines invitation
England's football hero Geoff Hurst has declined an invitation from the FA to attend the European Championship final in Berlin and will instead watch the final against Spain at home. The 82-year-old told the British tabloid "The Sun". "I couldn't be prouder of this team and I can't tell you how incredible it would be if England won," said the former goalscorer. Hurst is the only player still alive from the 1966 World Cup winning team that beat Germany 4-2 after extra time in the final at Wembley Stadium. The striker scored three goals in that historic match, including the legendary Wembley goal. In the event of a victory and the first title in 58 years, Hurst argues for a new national holiday.
