A woman was injured in Winterthur on Wednesday evening. The police arrested a 40-year-old man from Afghanistan suspected of the crime. He was out and about with a stabbing weapon in the Mattenbach district.

The man was reported to the Winterthur city police shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, as the Zurich cantonal police announced on Thursday. Patrols deployed encountered an injured woman. The 27-year-old Afghan woman was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The suspected perpetrator was arrested at around 11 pm. The man was handed over to the public prosecutor's office. The exact circumstances and background to the crime are being investigated.
