An Argentinian-Brazilian couple danced to victory at the World Tango Championships in Buenos Aires. Argentinian Fátima Caracoch and Brazilian Brenno Lucas Marques came out on top in the traditional dance hall category.

"It was a dream come true," Caracoch told the newspaper "La Nación". "It's not just about the title, but also about the passion and respect for this art that we love so much." Argentinians Ayelén Morando and Sebastián Martínez were crowned winners in the stage tango discipline.

750 couples from 53 countries took part in the 21st World Tango Championships in the Argentinian capital. Tango originated in Buenos Aires and the Uruguayan capital Montevideo at the end of the 19th century. From there it conquered the world. The period between 1935 and 1955 is considered the golden age of tango. But even today, the melancholy dance in three-four time is an integral part of the culture in both countries.
