The number of newly registered passenger cars in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein fell in the first half of 2024. A weak June is primarily responsible for the slightly negative balance.

This was announced by the Swiss Automobile Import Association on Tuesday. Specifically, 121,218 new cars hit the roads in the first six months. The association puts the shortfall compared to the previous six months at 2534 registrations. Meanwhile, Auto Schweiz registered a 10 percent decline in June 2024 alone compared to June 2023.

However, the number of cars with alternative drive systems grew again. The market share of these vehicles in all newly registered cars rose to 58.2% in the first half of the year. In the first six months of 2023, this figure was still 54.8 percent.
