The cantonal government has allocated CHF 2.5 million for the construction of the new BLS stop at Europaplatz in Bern. The new stop is to be built next to the new campus of the Bern University of Applied Sciences.

The Ausserholligen area, which has been defined as a development focus, is set to become a new working and living space in the coming years. Private and public developers want to invest around three billion francs in the area.

For example, high-rise buildings and a new, large university campus are to be built. Public transport is also to keep pace with the developments.

The current Stöckacker S-Bahn stop will be removed and moved around 400 meters in the direction of Europaplatz. The new Europaplatz Nord stop will be built in the immediate vicinity of the new campus, as announced by the cantonal building and transport directorate on Thursday.

According to BLS, it expects up to 25,000 passengers to board and alight the train each day by 2040. Today, there are just over 8,000.
