On Monday, the first day of the September session, the St. Gallen Cantonal Council
- appointed various committees;
- approved the Cantonal Council resolution on the special sale for start-up financing in the second reading;
- took note of the reports of the State Economic Commission and the annual reports of the Social Insurance Institution, the Buildings Insurance, the Cantonal Hospital, the Rheintal Werdenberg Sarganserland Hospital Region, the Linth Hospital, the Fürstenland Toggenburg Hospital Region, the St. Gallen Psychiatric Clinic and the Center for Laboratory Medicine, with a few requests to speak;
- The cantonal law on days of rest and store opening was amended at first reading: In future, stores will be able to stay open from Monday to Saturday between 5 am and 10 pm;
- passed by 79 votes to 25, with four abstentions, a commission motion calling for the hospital associations that have just been merged into a single public-law institution to be converted into a public limited company. The government now has six years to draw up a proposal for this;
- rejected a motion by the SVP that would have allowed referendums on decisions not requiring a referendum;
- accepted a motion by the FDP, Center-EPP and SVP demanding that tax increases require a qualified majority in the cantonal council (61 votes);
-several motions were dealt with and resolved.
