On Wednesday, Basel's Grand Council unanimously approved the expenditure authorization for the Saint-Louis Park and Lysbüchelplatz on the Volta Nord site. The two parks will be built on the former Lysbüchel industrial estate in the St. Johann district.

A nature reserve as well as lawns and a playground are planned for the 22,500 square meter Saint-Louis-Park. The green space is planned next to the tracks of the Alsace Railway and will cost CHF 10.2 million.

SBB demolished the tracks, buildings and sealed surfaces on its plot in 2020 and 2021. After completion of the project, cost contributions from SBB and the federal government of a maximum of CHF 3.1 million will be deducted, as stated in the government's proposal.

Parliament has approved CHF 8.3 million for the planned Lysbüchelplatz, with the majority of the expenditure being financed from the value-added tax fund. The 5,000 square meter square is intended to resemble a park rather than a classic neighborhood square. Trees, a natural stone floor and a pavilion are planned.
