Two men were seriously injured in a fight in Basel on Saturday night. The police arrested three suspects.

The fight broke out in front of the "Space Bar" in Steinenvorstadt at 3 am. The staff were cleaning up when three men arrived, the public prosecutor's office said. After a verbal argument, a 43-year-old German, an employee of the bar, was suddenly seriously injured with a "dangerous object".

The three people made off in the direction of the Birsig parking lot. A passer-by, a 50-year-old Swiss man, who had rushed to help, followed them and was seriously injured by blows in the parking lot, according to the public prosecutor's office.

The two victims were taken to hospital by paramedics. The police arrested the three suspects later that night. According to the statement, they were three Dutch nationals aged 18, 22 and 23.

The motive for the altercation had not yet been determined on Saturday. The "dangerous object" with which the bar employee was injured was also still unclear.
