Two goals in stoppage time secure Arsenal a 4-2 win against Leicester. The Londoners thus catch up with ManCity. Cole Palmer shone for Chelsea against Brighton (4-2) with four goals.
No winner in the duel between Swiss defenders Fabian Schär and Manuel Akanji: the match between Newcastle United and Manchester City ended 1-1. Josko Gvardiol put the visitors ahead in the first half, Anthony Gordon equalized in the 58th minute. The 23-year-old Englishman converted the penalty he himself had taken. Schär, who retired from the national team after the European Championships, played through, as did Akanji, who last played as the Swiss captain.
It was the second consecutive draw for champions City after four wins in the opening game. The previous week, the Citizens drew 2-2 with Arsenal. The Londoners, meanwhile, closed the gap on the league leaders from Manchester thanks to a 4-2 win against Leicester. Leahdro Trossard scored the 3:2 in the 94th minute. Kai Havertz then scored the final goal.
Chelsea's Cole Palmer had a great day. The 22-year-old Englishman scored four goals between the 21st and 41st minute to secure a 4-2 win over Brighton virtually single-handedly. It was the first defeat of the season for the team of 31-year-old coach Fabian Hürzeler, who holds a Swiss as well as a German passport.
Brentford's fast starters struck again. For the third time in a row, the team from west London scored a goal in the first minute of the game - a first in the Premier League. However, Brentford failed to win any of these three games. After defeats against Manchester City (1-2) and Tottenham (1-3), the result was a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.
The new Premier League leaders are Liverpool, who won 2-1 at bottom club Wolverhampton.
