Scottish cult fans Pat and Walter have a clear opinion on England's performance at this European Championship. After Scotland's elimination, the two are now rooting for the national team.
Walter (65) from Glasgow and Pat (73) from Edinburgh are die-hard Scotland fans. They have been following their team around the football world since 1970. They have cheered and suffered with the Scottish national team in 54 countries.
At the European Championship in Germany, it was more suffering. After the group stage, they finished bottom of the table. A 1:5 defeat against Germany, a 1:1 against Switzerland and a 0:1 against Hungary. "That was nothing. We were very disappointed," says Walter.
The fun-loving Scots will not let this spoil their party mood. The motto "No Scotland, no party" continues. Walter and Pat are flexible and change colors. They swap their Scottish shirts for Swiss shirts. Walter: "We're for the Swiss now. We've met some nice people from Switzerland and are now supporting Switzerland," says Walter. "Italy can be beaten. I think Switzerland can reach the final. I hope they make it to the final."
"The best thing since the introduction of Viagra"
Pat is less optimistic than his buddy. "Italy is more on the poor side. I think Switzerland will make it to the quarter-finals. I don't know if they'll go any further."
Pat and Walter also like to talk about England's unconvincing performances so far. "They think they're much better than they really are. The English are not a team, they have no identity." Walter goes one better. "The English really think their team is the best thing since the invention of Viagra." Laughter.
