Johan Vonlanthen knew even before the start of the European Championships that his record as the youngest goalscorer would soon be history. In June, the former national team star spoke to blue Sport about the new record holder, Lamine Yamal.
At the 2004 European Championship in Portugal, Johan Vonlanthen scored the only Swiss goal of that final round in a 3-1 defeat against France - at the age of 18 years and 141 days. No one has been younger than the Colombian-born player before or since. Until July 9, 2024.
Then 16-year-old Spaniard Lamine Yamal crowned himself the new record man with a dream goal in the semi-final against France. Ex-NATI star Vonlanthen saw this coming even before the start of the European Championship. You can watch his prediction again in the video above.
