Ariana Grande et Lady Gaga sont les artistes engrangeant le plus de nominations pour l'édition 2020 des MTV Video Music Awards, avec 9 citations pour leur clip Rain on Me, juste devant Billie Eilish et The Weeknd, sélectionnés dans six catégories.

On les retrouve tous les quatre dans la catégorie Vidéo de l'année, aux côtés de Taylor Swift, Future et Drake, ainsi qu'Eminem et Juice World. Dans la catégorie Artiste de l'année, les deux chanteuses feront face à Post Malone, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber et Megan Thee Stallion.

Nouveauté cette année : deux catégories créées pour honorer les sorties durant le confinement. Meilleure performance de quarantaine et Meilleur clip fait à la maison font leur apparition. Les fans peuvent voter en ligne jusqu'au 23 août.
